Arsenal’s injury worries are mounting as Mikel Arteta faces a selection headache for his starting eleven against Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United.
The list continues to grow for the North London side prior to their trip to face Leeds.
The Gunners travel to Elland Road on Sunday for an important Premier League clash. As a result, there could be several fresh faces in the teams’ line-up.
Here, DAILY POST looks at how Arsenal’s line-up will potentially look like.
Bernd Leno will continue in between the sticks as the goalkeeper was an unused substitute for Germany’s 3-1 win over Ukraine in the EURO Nations League.
In defence, the Spaniard could choose between Rob Holding and Brazil’s David Luiz to partner the ever-impressive Gabriel Magalhaes at the heart of the defence.
Holding, who has only returned from the treatment room, had a tough time against Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and Chelsea’s loanee Ross Barkley during the loss to Villa before the International break.
But the experienced David Luiz could be given the nod in such a tricky away match. Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney will also start in the defence.
The latter impressed for Scotland on Sunday in his natural left-back role thus helping the Scottish side secured qualification for a major tournament over the last 20 years.
Thomas Partey sustained two different injuries in the Aston Villa game- a knock in the ankle and a thigh strain, leaving his Gunners side sweating over his availability.
Sadly it was confirmed on Friday morning that he would not recover in time for the Sunday’s clash against Leeds United.
Egypt’s Mohamed Elneny misses out after testing positive for coronavirus during the International assignment for Egypt.
And it’s expected that the midfield player will sit out this game in his homeland.
With these two midfielders out of this tie, Arteta could make do with Joe Willock after his positive showings in the recent Europa League games against Dundalk and Molde.
Experienced Swiss star Granit Xhaka will almost likely start after another positive performance for his country (Switzerland) while Dani Ceballos is likely to play as well.
Other issue to consider at the moment is Arsenal front three. Nicolas Pepe could face his former manager in Marcelo Bielsa on Sunday, with Willian and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is likely to be preferred in the attack by Arteta.
Alexandre Lacazette’s performances have been poor of late and he could be the one to pave the way for Nicolas Pepe in the Arsenal’s starting eleven.
Arsenal’s Possible Starting Eleven vs. Leeds United
Bernd Leno; Hector Bellerin, Gabriel Magalhaes, David Luiz, Kieran Tierney; Granit Xhaka, Joe Willock; Dani Ceballos; Nicolas Pepe, Willian (Borges), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
