Former Nigerian international, Daniel Amokachi, has urged Napoli star, Victor Osimhen, to break the late Super Eagles striker, Rashidi Yekini’s 37 International goals record with the national team.
Amokachi, a former teammate of Yekini’s said this ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON qualifier tie against Sierra Leone on Friday in Benin City.
According to him, Osimhen, who is now the first choice striker for the Super Eagles, is more skillful than Yekini.
Osimhen has scored four goals for Nigeria in his last five matches for Gernot Rohr’s men.
“I think he [Victor Osimhen] will [break Yekini’s goal record],” Amokachi said during his Radio programme ‘Bull’s Pit’ on Brila FM on Friday.
“And I have said it over and over again injury-free Osimhen will, he will be one of the best ever goalscorers that ever come out of this country. What he possesses Yekini doesn’t, Osimhen is very skillful, Yekini is not skillful.
“If you combine the speed, skill and strength that he has, and he’s one player that can bully a defender for 90 minutes, then why not.”
Amokachi added: ”What is lacking now is a creative player which we are still searching for. But it’s good we have (Joe) Aribo in the team, if he can stamp his authority and is given the chance to express himself, I’m sure the front players will enjoy him because he’s a very skillful player and the kind of passes he puts in is quality.”
